Stephen Prime, our Head Technician and Managing Director, formed T.P. Dental Laboratory in 1989, and it has developed organically since those first tentative days. Having moved premises to Syston in 2000, and become a Limited Company in 2002, we gained the coveted DAMAS accreditation in September 2005 which further confirms our professionalism and dedication to the manufacture and supply of dental appliances. With changing times, we renamed and revamped our laboratory in 2008, now trading as Prime Orthodontic Studio Ltd.
Steve’s work history is of having gained experience within the NHS before branching out into commercial enterprise. Having decided to specialise in Orthodontics, his first appointment was as a Dental Technician at Coventry & Warwickshire Hospital in 1982. To further his career, Steve moved to the Department of Orthodontics & Children's Dentistry at Birmingham Dental Hospital in 1984 until an opportunity arose to join the Glenfield General Hospital in 1986 as Senior Technician.
Feeling very dissatisfied with the Health Service administration, Steve decided to build his own business starting part-time in 1989 until he finished his contract with the Health Service and dedicated 100% of his time to T.P. Dental Laboratory in 1991.
Steve’s initial training was City & Guilds Final Certificate/SCOTEC Diploma from Edinburgh Dental Hospital in 1982 and he gained his City & Guilds Advanced Certificate in Orthodontics at Birmingham. He is a member of the Orthodontic Technicians Association, with a keen interest in developing orthodontic treatments/designs. Stephen is a self professed perfectionist, who takes a great personal pride in making quality appliances. He registered with the General Dental Council in April 2007.
Sarah Prime is the other Director of the business and also its Company Secretary. She runs the administrative side of the Laboratory and is responsible for developing the procedures and training of staff that enabled T.P. Dental Laboratory to apply for and get accreditation for DAMAS, which continues under POS.
Sarah’s work history is that of a professional secretary/administrator. Her career has been that of supporter to senior management wherever she has worked; the NHS, further education, business consultancy, HR and contract catering.
Sarah’s professional qualifications are PSC, CMS. She has taken many short courses over the years including training herself as she took the Laboratory through DAMAS training and accreditation in 2005. In 2007 Sarah successfully completed the National Award in Dental Technology, achieving a Distinction. She is now partway through the Foundation Degree in Dental Technology which she aims to complete in 2010. Sarah is also a regular contributor to the Dental Laboratories Assocation’s journal DentalLab writing Student Life.
The combination of both Steve and Sarah’s professional qualifications and training, based on our experiences of business through the years has been invaluable in taking Prime Orthodontic Studio forward. We both care about the details, getting things right and have a real pride in our work completing everything ourselves. |
